"Thousands of accomplished educators are now writing blogs about teaching and learning, bringing transparency to both the art and science of their practice". -Bill Ferriter
The reason I started off with this quote was because in my mind this is an excellent case of collaboration through technology. Last spring at my Special Ed. placement I was introduced to the SMART BOARD. I had seen them in my classes at Bank Street but wasn't a bit curious as to how to use them. Well, that all changed for me because where I was teaching every classroom had one and all of the teachers used them at least 3 times a day. So,in preparing for my first lesson I asked one of my head teachers for a tutorial. She showed me the basics and I'll never forget one great piece of advice she gave me, "When the children are out to specials, take the class time to practice.." So I did and with more use I started to fell more comfortable.
After my first lesson, having made numerous mistakes with the SB, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I went to YouTube to look at postings on "How to use a SMART BOARD" and there were many that I found quite helpful. Ferriter's quote made me think that I should have searched the web for teacher blogs regarding SMARTBOARDS. This also got me thinking, Bank Street should offer a SMART BOARD class, this way we would all be prepared when we enter our placements. What I feel that all of this weeks readings had in common is that we as Educators should take advantage of all of the information out their to help us as learners.
