Living and Learning with New Media: Steph Dobler

I must say it was a little surprising to see the terms "geeking out," "messing around" and "flirting" in such a scholarly setting as a white-paper from the MacArthur foundation.

However, once I moved past my surprise, I was really inspired by the fact that fornak adult culture is taking such an interest in figuring out youth culture--not just youth behavior, but their actual culture. So much I think of the disconnect between young people and adults or teachers is the traditional condescension that the latter group demonstrates toward the former. In fact though, if we as adults and teachers are going to best serve the children and young people in our schools, we must first understand what interests them and second understand where technology is going. Young people are the obvious source for this information.
