Why We Need to Teach 21st Century Skills—And How to Do It

The knowledge I have gained in this course has been extremely enlightening. I know have a deeper understanding of the benefits to integrating technology in my classroom as well as how to implement my new found ideas. The article by Bob Regan solidified my understanding as to why we need to teach these 21st century skills. I agree that this is a new age and educators need to embrace it. As educators its our job to prepare our students for the world that they will work and live in once their schooling is complete. We need to provide them with the skills necessary to compete in the world. It can be done, but as educators we need to understand the skills that this century consists of. I believe that the lack of understanding the significance of integrating technology in the classroom is the reason that teachers don't embrace it. It's going to take a little more than just pointing them in the right direction or having smart boards placed in every classroom. Teachers NEED professional development.
Integrating technology is another way to ensure that no child is left behind. The 'times are a changing' and we need to prepare our students for that. They need to go into the world feeling confident.
